A Memorial for All of Utah
The Utah Freedom Memorial, which is now under construction in front of Sandy’s City Hall, will provide Utahns with an inspiring monument to honor the state’s veterans and serving military. Even though the monument is only partially complete, it is clear that in the months and years to come this spot will be a special place of remembrance and reflection. Additionally, it will be a place for student who will contribute essays each year that will be displayed at the memorial.
It is exciting to watch the monument rise and look forward to the dedication planned for Friday afternoon and evening of May 16th which will serve as an inspirational lead-in to Armed Forces Day activities scheduled for the following day.
Music, activities, booths and displays will begin at 5:00 p.m., and will culminate with the dedication at 7:00 p.m. which will conclude with a stirring ceremony performed by some of Utah’s men and women who currently serve in our military. This is the perfect way to begin the celebration of Armed Forces Day. Plan to attend, bring your family and friends, and you will not be disappointed.
The Utah Freedom Memorial is located on the lawn immediately in front of the Sandy City Hall at 100000 South Centennial Parkway, Sandy City. Turn west from State Street onto Sego Lily Drive at 100 South and continue to the Hope Rising monument immediately south of the City Hall. This is an event you don’t want to miss.
